Syncplify.me Server! v4.0 Released!

Syncplify.me Server! version 4.0 has been released and it’s more secure than ever, featuring Virtual File Systems (VFS), multiple impersonation and isolation levels, ECDSA key exchange, management via secure REST API, and more.

WILMINGTON, DE – February 17, 2016 – Syncplify, Inc., young and dynamic US-based software development company, has just released a brand new major version of its Syncplify.me Server!, SFTP and FTPS secure file transfer server for Windows.

Syncplify.me Server! version 4.0 is not just an improvement over the previous versions, the architecture has been redesigned from the ground up to deliver an even greater level of security while adding manageability via REST API, a brand new and web-based Configuration Manager, support for virtual file systems (VFS), as well as advanced impersonation and isolation features.

This new version of Syncplify.me Server! is also ideal for those users who need to comply to the latest versions of the PCI-DSS and HIPAA regulations, as it features advanced anti-tampering techniques for its administrative logs using an “indexed rollover” digital signature methodology.

“We have been listening to our customers’ requests and needs, actively working with them, to carefully design and develop our best SFTP and FTPS server to date,” said Fjodr Soyevskji, Chief Technology Officer at Syncplify, Inc.

“We have developed our new version 4.0 in close contact with some of our biggest customers, Fortune 500 companies and Governments, to make sure our product stands up to their toughest secure file transfer requirements,” said Helga Kessler, Chief Operation Officer.

Syncplify.me Server! v4.0 is free for personal use, and paid licenses are available for any other use. Corporate and custom licensing options are also available upon request.

How to install Syncplify.me Server! v4

Syncplify.me Server! version: 4.0.0+

If you are already running an older version (v3.x) of Syncplify.me Server! and you wish to upgrade, then please carefully review this other KB article.

This article is intended only for new installations of Syncplify.me Server! v4.x onto systems where no other version of the software has ever been installed. The video below shows in detail the entire procedure:

Syncplify.me Server!: upgrading to version 4.x

Syncplify.me Server! version: 4.0.0+

Syncplify.me Server! v4 is more than just a major release. The software was totally redesigned and nearly entirely rewritten. The back-end database is new, both in structure (JSON) and with regards to the engine (MongoDB). The virtual file system (VFS) implements a true separation of the file transfer engine and the storage. Management is now entirely based on a rich set of REST API, to which we provide 2 front-ends: a modern Boorstrap/AngularJS secure web interface, and a completely redesigned CLI (command-line interface). For all these reasons, in order to upgrade to version 4 and keep your configuration and user database, you will have to carefully follow the procedures explained in this article, and especially in the VIDEO here below. Syncplify.me Server! v4: new license code format

Syncplify.me Server! version: 4.0.0+

This is a little, yet relevant, difference between Syncplify.me Server! v3 and v4. Version 3’s license codes were composed of 3 chunks of 4 digits each (ex: 1234-1234-1234) while the new v4 features license codes composed of 4 chunks of 4 digits each (ex: 1234-1234-1234-1234).

This means that v3 licenses are not compatible with v4. If you are an existing customer with an active support/maintenance and upgrade protection subscription, you will still need to contact us (before upgrading from v3 to v4) in order to request your new v4 license code. As usual, all v3 customers with an active subscription will be entitled to a FREE upgrade to v4.

Syncplify.me Server! v4: the all-new VFS

Syncplify.me Server! version: 4.0.0+

One of the biggest changes that version 4 will bring to Syncplify.me Server!’s user base is the all-new Virtual File System. This is such an epic change that it’s actually one of the reasons why the release of v4 is taking longer than expected… but it will be worth the wait.

Check out the following comparison table to appreciate the main advantages of the new VFS over the previous approach (that was based on “virtual directories”):

Virtual Directory Approach (v1, v2, v3)Virtual File System (v4)
Virtual directories can only be placed directly under the user's home directoryIn a VFS, virtual folders can be placed anywhere, even nested within each other
All virtual directories are accessed "as" the user who logged in (single impersonation)In a VFS, each virtual folder can accessed "as" a different user profile (multiple impersonation)
Virtual directories mapped to UNC paths could not be accessed by "normal" user profiles, only by Windows or AD user profilesEach virtual folder has its own impersonation criteria, so even "normal" user profiles can access virtual folders mapped to remote UNC paths

Syncplify.me Server!: the path from v3 to v4 (teaser)

After less than a month from the release of v3, our team is already at work on v4.

While v3 has been our “back-end release” (the version that introduced a whole lot of new functional features, from speed limits to new scripting capabilities, from multiple instances to actual impersonation, and more…), v4 will be our “front-end release” and will deliver a greatly improved interface for… well… everything.

And thanks to the whole new configuration API implemented as REST web service to be consumed over a secure HTTPS channel, the GUI will also be fully cross-platform. Ever dreamed to be able to configure your Syncplify.me Server! from your iPhone or Android device? V4 will make it possible!
